A Little Gem July 4, 2010 S. Jones 41 out of 42 found this review helpful
I've never owned a Compaq product before, so I was a bit apprehensive about how reliable it was going to be. However, when I received the product, this was nothing to be worried about, as it behaved well and was as quick as a blink at everything! It has the latest Windows 7 (which is awesome as you can have gadgets, design your own wallpaper and customize everything),it is great to carry around and has a super battery life and looks great, because it has a piano black finish and some nice silver edges.
I would recommend this notebook/laptop to anyone in need of somewhere to word process, surf the web and have fun in style. It has an integrated web cam, great if you have an account on Skype, Windows Live or Facebook. The internet is super speedy and I had no trouble at all setting it up with my wireless connection, because the laptop/notebook pretty much does everything for you. This is a great piece of technology.
Great value and easy to install August 7, 2010 A.J. (IOM) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Great performance, very fast, wireless connectivity is excellent, and it was stunningly easy to get it set up. This last point may sound trivial, but having set up half a dozen other laptops for family members in the last year or so - Dell, Toshiba, Macbook, and a couple of Acers - this was by far the easiest. It comes with minimal (but sufficient) instructions for everything you actually need, and there is none of the usual bloated pre-install of packages and games that seem to be the norm with other manufacturers.
It won't win any beauty prizes but the only thing I'm really not wild about is the giant letter on the top, and I can't knock off a star just for that.
Quality at a bargain price! August 10, 2010 A. Sharma 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Compaq is now a sub division on HP so as you can imagine, this is a serious piece of kit. The Compaq CQ61-401SA has a Intel T4400 processor. Although this is the lower end of the Intel processor range, it is very capable of the standard users needs. What also came to my attention within 30 minutes of turning it on was how quiet and lag free the processor was.
This is also partly down to the 4GB RAM installed on this machine. Even running more demanding applications like photo editors or video editing software, this machine is a dream to use. Windows 7 home premium that is pre installed on this machine is the 64bit version, which utilises the 4GB RAM properly, rather than a 32bit operating system showing only 3.5GB. The 320GB hard drive speaks for itself. Thats enough storage for 100,000 photos!
Another key feature that makes this Notebook stand out is the wireless radio used to connect to a wireless network. Most notebooks around this price range would support 802.11b and 802.11G, but this machine also supports 802.11N which, if used with the right router, extends coverage and improves speeds. For those of you into your networking, beware that 802.11N on this laptop will only work on the 2.4Ghz frequency and NOT on 5Ghz.
The graphics card used in this machine is a basic Intel GMA 4500M, fine for the odd game or DVD.
Other key features to note on this machine is the 15.6" HP Brightview display, (which is actually brighter than normal) and also that it is HD ready to a 720P standard. The speaker system also comes from Altec Lansing, who are well known for their audio capabilities. There is also an integrated webcam which has a 1.3MP resolution. Integrated is a memory card reader that will read SD, XD and Memory Stick Pro formats,3 USB ports, HDMI and VGA ports.
All in all an excellent all rounder. Definatley recommended to everyone!
